4 ways of getting Stumble Upon traffic for your blogs

February 29th, 2008

I’ve been a “stumbler” for over a year now but I was not getting any stumbles for my pages because I was not doing anything! I’ve read several good articles about how Stumble Upon can boost your traffic but totally disregarded them. Until recently, I attempted to try Stumble Upon and saw how my blog traffic massively grew.

Previously, I was only getting up to 20 visitors at one time. Last February 24, 2008, this blog had 372 online users, which was the highest so far. Right now, Stumble Upon is one of my top traffic sources.

Share large files in blog posts, IM and e-mail with Pando

February 26th, 2008

Pando Software

Sharing large files is easy nowadays due to the advent of P2P software like LimeWire, Morpheus, Ares etc, and file-sharing websites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, and others. However, most of these softwares or sites require waiting time and download before you can download another file. This becomes a dilemma with split downloads like movie clips, e-book downloads, and other large divided files (i.e. part 1, part 2, etc). You can only avoid waiting time and download limits by paying as premium user.

Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and other free e-mail service has attachment size limits (usually 5 MB). This attachment size is applicable only for documents, but not when sending large files as attachments like video clips, audio files, high resolution images, etc.

Pando is a great free P2P software that lets you share large files in blog posts, instant messengers and e-mail.

Send large e-mail attachments. Pando allows you to send up to 1GB of e-mail attachments through your free e-mail account.

Share files with your readers and friends without the annoying waiting time and download limit. Pando also lets you share big files with your friends in IM clients and websites/blogs.

Why are the Filipinos still unhappy?

February 24th, 2008

Tomorrow (February 25) marks the 22nd year anniversary of EDSA revolution. It was one of the most historic events in the Philippines because democracy won over dictatorship. It showed the solidified unity of Filipinos to oust a greedy and corrupt leader. The Filipino nation rejoiced. We were freed! We should be happy, shouldn’t we? We were once dubbed as the second happiest people in Asia, after all.

Ironically, we can’t feel that so-called happiness right now. The current political crisis we are experiencing – the NBN controversy only proved the ongoing deception and corruption of our political leaders – is no reason to be happy.

In an article from The Philippine Daily Inquirer, analysts said that the Filipinos are still unhappy after 22 years since the fall of Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos no matter how the present administration is boasting about economic growth, which has improved the lives of many  because of Pres. Arroyo’s policies. Read more…

Avoid WordPress comment spam in two steps!

February 22nd, 2008

For months now, this blog has been freed from comment spam I used to experience before because I found out the most effective ways to avoid WordPress spam.

1. Deactivating Akismet. Previously, I was getting at least 200 spam comments per day. I had to scan them one-by-one because some comments were filtered as spam by Akismet. Out of frustration, I deactivated the plugin with thoughts of completely avoiding these spam messages. True enough, I have not received spam comments since then.

Note: Do not delete Akismet from the plugins directory because you’re blog may experience another spam flood.

2. Install a spam blocking plugin. Currently I am using Matriphe Keycode, one of the best anti spam plugins I’ve ever used.
