Medicine to Full-time Blogging?

July 31st, 2008

Photo courtesy of NY TimesNY Times featured a story of a full-pledged doctor, Dr. Arnold Kim, who traded medicine to become a full-time blogger.

It had been a hobby — albeit a time-consuming one — while Dr. Kim earned his medical degree. He kept at it as he completed his medical training and began diagnosing patients’ kidney problems. Dr. Kim’s Web site now attracts more than 4.4 million people and 40 million page views a month, according to Quantcast, making it one of the most popular technology Web sites.

It is enough to make Dr. Kim hang up his stethoscope. This month he stopped practicing medicine and started blogging full time.

The story scares me because I have certain ideation sometimes (that is giving up medicine for blogging). I could pretty much relate to his story. In my case, I have been having a struggle in adjusting my time on my hospital duties and blogging since I know how lucrative blogging is. I actually have thought of quitting medicine and do full-time blogging instead. I was thinking that I could earn more if I have all the time to make posts regularly and create blogs to add up to my online earnings. Thank God, however, that I was still sane enough not to give up medicine for blogging. I still think that pursuing medicine will lead me to a much brighter and fulfilling career.

Get a Chance to Win a Smart Bro Prepaid Kit!

July 19th, 2008

The New Smart Bro Prepaid Kit lets you surf the web anywhere there\'s PCSmart Broadband Inc has released few months ago their new product, Smart Bro Prepaid that allows you to surf the net anywhere there’s a PC without having to worry on Monthly Service Fees since it’s prepaid.

The Smart BRO USB modem is a small, palm-sized device that you can carry with you wherever you go. And anytime you need to surf, just plug it into the USB port of your PC, and you’ll get connected in a flash. Total initial payment is P3800 (I also heard the modem itself is worth P4,000.00) with FREE P100 broadband load. Broadband Internet use is P10 for every 30 minutes. It’s a cheaper and more convenient way to surf the web than going to internet cafes and Starbucks for a 100-plus worth of internet connection (of coffee, rather).

What’s the advantage of Smart Bro Prepaid Kit over your usual broadband or DSL connection? Aside from its convenience (because you can load it through the thousands of Smart Load outlet centers) and being a cheaper alternative, you can bring it anywhere you go. So this is perfect for people on-the-go. Because of its nationwidest coverage, Smart Bro offers internet connectivity on almost every parts of the Philippines. You can also control your internet usage, a good way to save up on your monthly service fees. You don’t have to sign any contract to avail for the service and never have to worry on termination fees and lock-in periods.

Will there really be an earthquake on July 18, 2008?

July 17th, 2008

Heating up the web today are the latest predictions of Juseleeno Nobulega Daroose (Jucelino Nobrega da Luz), among which is the high-magnitude earthquake which is said to hit the Philippines on July 18, 2008 (and that will be tomorrow, few minutes from now in fact!). This has caused the Filipinos to be anxious about the said high-intensity earthquake. The Philvolcs however denied of this predictions saying that there’s no science behind. I am not a believer of predictions but I hope the Philvolcs assurance was right.

Anyway, Juseleeno Nobulega Daroose is a Brazilian who has listed several of his predictions in his website. Most of his predictions has passed which included Princess Diana’s death by car accident, the 911 tragedy and the 2004 Indonesian tsunami. Accordingly, he sees the future in his dreams and has an average of 3 to 9 such predictions per day.

A list of his predictions are available here.
