PRC Official Website is an Attack Site?

August 26th, 2009

I was visiting the official website of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) when a page alerted me this:

PRC Official Website is an Attack Site

PRC Official Website is an Attack Site

The site was listed by Google as suspicious because malicious software are being downloaded and installed without user consent.

Here’s what Google found out while browsing the PRC website:

Of the 109 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 6 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2009-08-24, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2009-08-06.

Malicious software includes 13 scripting exploit(s), 13 trojan(s), 13 exploit(s).

Malicious software is hosted on 5 domain(s), including car963.info/, gamemaill.com/, a0v.org/.

2 domain(s) appear to be functioning as intermediaries for distributing malware to visitors of this site, including a0v.org/, f1y.in/.

This site was hosted on 1 network(s) including AS9658 (ETPI).

This leads us to conclusion that even official government sites can serve as computer threats and unsafe for browsing. If I am not mistaken a similar incident happened to the Securities and Exchange Commission official website some years ago.
