This was my first question when I learned about the new receive feature of PayPal in the Philippines. Since Smart Money is a debit card and it is powered by MasterCard, I thought it will be an option to verify my PayPal account. At that time, I have an unclaimed $80 from Text-Link Ads so I was desperately looking for ways to verify my account.
I immediately contacted their Smart Costumer Care to inquire about it.
Type: Inquiry
Good day!
Recently, PayPal was made available in the Philippines to receive funds. I heard that debit cards can be used to verify my account and to withdraw my funds. Since Smart Money is a debit card which is also powered by MasterCard, can I use it to withdraw funds from my PayPal account?
Thank you!
After 2 days, I received a reply from them stating:
Smart Money’s tie up with PayPal is yet to be established. Currently, Smart has its own remittance system that we call Smart Padala. Smart Padala is the first and only cash remittance service via text. It is the newest way of remitting cash from a sender abroad to the celfone of a beneficiary here in the Philippines.
I was hoping to use my Smart Money for PayPal transactions.

Well you’re not the only one. I’m still finding a way to verify my account. Otherwise, I might just spend whatever money I’ll recieve via PayPal on some other thing that I don’t really need.

@business blog
the problem is w/c Debit Cards are available to cash in Paypal.
I’ve garnered so far that CC’s like Citibank’s and Unionbanks can be used to acquire Paypal payments as “Cash Advances.” I’m not sure if it’s cashable or not but you can use the funds on your CC as payment for anything else.

@make money online: I think it is possible if you were in the states. It’s not yet available in the Philippines I guess.

Nope, won’t work. I removed Smart Money from the list after getting a similar reply like yours.
I also visited them, same reply. Apparently, they do not know why you want to use PayPal. They think Filipinos are using such services to send money to and fro your relatives and family members.
When I told them it is for the payments to “me” for my web services, they just said sorry and thank you.
Globe G-Cash I’m not sure. I haven’t seen a Globe G-Cash card in years :p I dont know if its even MasterCard enabled.

You can only transfer (withdraw) your funds on a VISA card. Mastercard or any other card is not yet approved by paypal. Check your PP account and you’ll see. You may however use non-VISA cards to verify your account. So far, Union Bank of the Philippines is monopolizing the withdraw capability of paypal via their EON VISA Electron Card. E-PCI has its own VISA Electron card but were ceased (temporarily?) until all EPCI banks were converted to BDO (maybe). UBP is the only bank in the Philippines which you can use to withdraw paypal funds. $500 is the withdrawal limit and charge is $5 per withdrawal.

Smart Money card couldn’t be used with withdrawing funds or verifying your Paypal. I personally contacted Smart Telecom regarding it, and said that the feature is not yet available for Smart Money, instead they offered me Smart Padala, which is their own money transfer service.

As of now, only unionbankph is the only bank you can use for withdrawing funds from your paypal directly to your debit card or to your account number. There is a charge of $5 to withdraw funds directly to your debit card. But since your eon account can also be your savings account, you can add your bank account number as well to your paypal so that you can use the other option of withdrawing funds from your paypal directly to your bank account instead of withdrawing to your debit card so that you will only be charged of 50 Php instead of $5. You can apply for eon account here http://unionbankph.com/content.asp-paramID=AMBKABZZZZ.htm and it will cost you 300 Php to claim your card a week after. If you have any questions, you can send me email at sweet_jaypee@hotmail.com
