The Mac Platform is not Safe After All

January 27th, 2009

Mac users had been enjoying a virtually virus- and malware-free platform.  That was before.  Recent virus attacks have been targetting the previously-thought safe and immune Mac platform.  As the Mac gains popularity, it become vulnerable to malware attacks as creators of these softwares deviate their attention to this platform.

As experts say, this recent vulnerability of Mac OS has been due to lack of development of anti-malware products, not because of the inherent security of the OS.

The iServices.A Trojan horse is an attack being distributed via BitTorrent, where it’s disguised as a bootleg copy of the new iWork 09. Once installed, the malware takes administrator access and connects to remote servers over the Internet, where it can be given additional instructions as the author commands, from installing additional malware to stealing information off the Mac in question. The malware creator can also take complete remote control of any compromised machine.

Intego reports that 20,000 and more have been affected by the iServices.A Trojan horse and the number continues to increase.

Because these attacks come from downloading pirated software from Torrent sites or any warez sites, Mac users are therefore advised to avoid doing these illegal downloading practices.  As is true to Windows users who have also been having similar problem.

5 Tips to Becoming a Better Blogger

January 5th, 2009

Blogging has become a mainstream activity, with everyone from teenagers to grandparents now blogging regularly.  With that in mind, here are 5 tips to help you become a better bloggger.

Blog Regularly

Many bloggers do not blog often enough. If you want to keep an audience, as well as keeping search engines happy, you need to make sure to have new content on your blog. The best way is to keep a schedule – blogging at least three times a week on different topics can make or break your blog.

Interact with Your Audience

Blogging is very much a social activity. Make sure to reply to comments, trackbacks, and other ideas that are circulating around your blog and your interests.

Interact with other Bloggers

Interacting with other bloggers in your niche is an excellent way to get more links and more readers. Find other blogs in your area – respond via comments, trackbacks. Ask to guest post on those blogs and create content that those bloggers want to link to and tell their audiences about.

Schedule Your Content

If you are using Wordpress (as many bloggers do) probably the best way to create more content is to pick one time during the week and write all of your major content then.  Once you’ve finished writing your content, you can schedule it to post at a later point. You’ve created a lot of content, and at the same time created regular postings and content for your blogs.

Get an Editor

Either a friend or a fellow blogger should be able to look over your content, give you tips and ideas for your content. If you’re a full time blogger, you might want to even consider hiring  a full time editor who can help you improve your writing style. The better your blogging and writing, the more contributors, readers and traffic you will get.

Web Hosting Buzz Offers the Cheapest VPS Hosting

December 4th, 2008

I have been hosted by Web Hosting Buzz (WHB) since early 2007.  I was searching for cheap hosting when I read some recommendations over the web about their service.   I tried their service and got the Shared Hosting first which costed me around $35 per year.  What has lured me more to their service before was the free setup for all accounts.  I was hosted by a free host before I was hosted by them.  So, transferring hosts can be a problem especially that some hosts require you a one-time setup fee or do not offer a free setup for all transfer accounts.  With WebhostingBuzz, I didn’t have problems with the account transfer because their staff did all of it to me.

The uptime was good, however, when my websites were getting overwhelming traffic, especially this blog resulting to server abuse, I had to upgrade to Business Hosting, which is a semi-dedicated hosting service to avoid account suspensions. I was satisfied with their service since then.

WHB also has excellent technical support.    Besides their 24/7 online chat support, submitted tickets are also responded to within 12 hours of posting.

Blog revamp

November 24th, 2008

I have not written any personal entry for this blog for long time now as I have been busy with my internship and maintaining my other personal blog on my spare time.

Jammed: Full into Capacity has been online for over three years now, have gone through changes similar to what happens to a usual blog – topic and layout changes, no-post-for-weeks stages, traffic drops (as reflected on my dropping Alexa rank) and the worst thing is disappearing from the top spots of Google SERPs.  I am still figuring out until now which of the Google’s guidelines have I violated.

Since the drop in traffic, my Adsense earnings have dropped to over 50%.  This was expected because most of my traffic comes from Google searches, with about 40% or more from Yahoo! searches.

During these past days, these visits from Yahoo! searches are still giving me Adsense income.  So after over a month of blog vacation (the previous posts have been powered by Syndicate Kahuna, an auto-syndicator), I have decided to increase pageviews through Yahoo! searches.  To do it, I have to regularly post interesting topics or potentially searched topics that could drive traffic to this blog.

So I am on a mission now:

- increase my visitors coming from Yahoo!

- target potential visitors from other search engines like MSN, AskJeeves, and Altavista.

- increase my Alexa rank.

- keep my loyal visitors and subscribers.
