Create your FREE online forms with Wufoo!

January 19th, 2008

Yesterday, I found out that the contact form has not been working. Thank God, I had thought of testing it myself. I was using the PXS Mail WordPress plugin then tried sending a test e-mail and found out it was not sent to my e-mail. I thought that this could a plugin compatibility issue so I tried another one (Dagon Design Form Mailer) with the same results. There maybe a server restriction that does not allow me to access the PHP mailform function as Dagon Design explained. I moved to a new host (WebhostingBuzz.com) last November and I noticed that I have not been receiving any message from my visitors. I know it can be easily resolved by contacting my host, however, it’s also good to try other alternatives. Good thing, I came across Wufoo, the free HTML form builder.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in Braille Edition

July 23rd, 2007

The National Braille Press had a special exclusive agreement with Scholastic Press, the publisher of Harry Potter book series (in the US), released a special braille edition of the Harry Potter and the Deathly WHallows, the last of the series. It is 1000 pages long in 10 volumes, weighing about 12 pounds, and standing more than a foot tall when stacked up. It costs $63 to publish one book with an expected higher price than the regular print edition but with NBP partnering with Yahoo! blind children and need not to spend more for a copy of the book than sighted people.

Two groups of Harry Potter fans, who aims to provide everyone (including the blind) an access to this international phenomenon, had made an initiative to raise funds for the project. The Walking Wizards had committed to raise $10,000 and Harry Potter for Grownups (a Yahoo! group) to raise $7,777. Yahoo! has spotted the kind intention of these groups and decided to help them with their goal. Yahoo! has decided to donate to the National Braille Press what each of these two initiatives raise, up to their respective goals.

The Devil’s Dictionary

November 16th, 2006

I was surprised that there’s actually a Devil’s Dictionary. Hah, we never took this up during our Literature Class. :-D I was searching for a definition a while back when I was redirected to a devil’s definition of the term.

Examples of the word defined:

ABDOMEN, n. The temple of the god Stomach, in whose worship, with sacrificial rights, all true men engage. From women this ancient faith commands but a stammering assent. They sometimes minister at the altar in a half-hearted and ineffective way, but true reverence for the one deity that men really adore they know not. If woman had a free hand in the world’s marketing the race would become graminivorous.

APOLOGIZE, v.i. To lay the foundation for a future offence.

BACK, n. That part of your friend which it is your privilege to contemplate in your adversity.

BACKBITE, v.t. To speak of a man as you find him when he can’t find you.

BEAUTY, n. The power by which a woman charms a lover and terrifies a husband.

Actually I find the definitions rather humorous than evil. :-D Some of the definitions can be regarded by others as sexist, nationalist, racist, or just generally offensive.
