Globelines, Smart Bro or PLDT MyDSL?

Author: Jam | Filed under Computer, Internet, Technology

A reader asked “ano ba ang mas pinakamura at may pinakamalakas na speed? smart ba or globe!
can i know their comparison?”

This will depend on which plan are you subscribing to, and of course, to which ISP you are dealing with:

For Globelines, they have various plans:
1. Wireless Globe Broadband Plan 512 kbps Data Only - You get up to 512 kbps download speed for PhP 995.00 as monthly service fee.

2. Wireless Globe Broadband Plan 512 kbps Data and Voice - You get up to 512 kbps download speed plus a wireless land line subscription for PhP 1,295.00 monthly.

3. Wired Globe Broadband Plan 1.5 Mbps Data Only - You get a download speed of up to 1.5 Mbps, for PhP 995.00 monthly.

4. Wired Globe Broadband Plan 3.0 Mbps Data Only - You get a download speed of up to 3.0 Mbps for PhP 1,995.00 monthly.

5. Wired Globe Broadband Plan 384 kbps Data and Voice - You get a download speed of up to 384 kbps for PhP 995.00 monthly.

6. Wired Globe Broadband Plan 1.0 Mbps Data and Voice - You get a download speed of up to 1.0 Mbps plus a wireless land line subscription for PhP 1,295 monthly.

7. Wired Globe Broadband Plan 2.0 Mbps Data and Voice - You get a download speed of up to 2.0 Mbps plus a wireless land line subscrition for PhP 1,995.00 monthly.

All plans are available in 12-month lock-in period. Currently, they are also offering free installation. Modems are also offered for free in some plans.

Check the Globelines website for more details.

For Smart Bro Plans:
1. The New Plan 799 will give you up to 384 kbps speed, with 40 internet hours free. You will be charged PhP 10.00 per block of 30 minutes in excess of 40 hours.

2. Plan 999 will give you up to 384 kbps speed with unlimited internet access for monthly of PhP 999.00.

For PLDT MyDSL Plans:
1. Xperience Plan. You get up to 1.0 Mbps speed for a monthly service fee of PhP 999.00.
2. Xcite Plan. You get up to up to 2.0 Mbps speed for PhP 1,995 per month.
3. Xcel Plan. You get up to 3.0 Mbps speed for PhP 3,000 per month.

Ma’am Noemi of The VoIP Resources provided a very good review and a speed test about these three ISPs.

I’ve been a Smart Bro subscriber for 1 year now (my 12-month lock-in period expired last January 16). At first I was really not satisfied with their service and after sales support. The first two months was a disappointment. But their seemed to be a problem with my antenna. They relocated it. In fairness to them, the speed got faster than my usual speed (well of course it has not reached their promised up-to-384-kbps speed, but at least it was improved) with fewer (than the usual occurrence) “broken” connection. Overall, I was still not satisfied with the speed.

I am planning to switch to Globelines now that I my lock-in period with Smart Bro expired. I was planning to extend my contract with them because of their new promo (1 monthly service fee free + LG KU205 for Php 500.00 per month and Nokia 1600 for PhP 200, with a chance to avail an HP printer for Php 999.00). For students like me who’s on tight budget, I easily succumb to this kind of promotions. I was discouraged, however, when I was informed that there were no available phones and the printer promo expired. What the heck? But why do they have to write it in my December bill with due date on January 16, 2008? It was a blessing in disguise, though, because I have made up my mind to switch to Globelines.

Very useful post. Though I’d say that when it comes to choosing an ISP, go for the one that works best in your local area. Ask your neighbors and see which ISP gets the best rating from them. The experience in terms of connection and customer service quality depends on where you’re located.

As far as my experience goes, Globelines sucks! LOLZ

Thanks for the additional tip. I’ve heard recommendations from my classmates using Globelines. My Smart Bro connection was not bad these past months although I still have not received my desired speed, which they promised as 384kbps.

Im very disappointed with Globelines Broadband service, after our 2 years lock-in period expired, they didn’t bother to inform us via written letter or call that our 2 year contract expired and already charging us 1,781.25 just for a 384kbps data and voice plan. and they are already charging us with that amount for 2 months. Thats how professional their customer service is like nakaka asar!

So i just visit their Business Center in Greenbelt to complain and to renew our broadband contract. I saw that they are offering a 1.0Mbps data/voice plan for only 1,295 so i requested to renew the contract and upgrade my current connection from 384kbps to 1.0Mbps and to my suprise when they told me that they can’t upgrade my speed because my area daw is a busy traffic area! WHAT!!!! why offer a 1.0Mbps plan if you are not even ready to offer such speed or even anticipated such broadband traffic! sabi ko tuloy may 2.0Mbps pa kayo eh 1.0Mbps nga hindi nyo na kayang i-offer sa akin.

    Hay naku… nakakadismaya!

Same case with SmartBro. They are advertising a nationwidest coverage but they could not provide internet connection to other places.
