What could be causing your slow internet connection?

March 28th, 2007

For the past weeks, I had a very slow connection (again). Since I’m on a SmartBro connection, this case is not new. Instead of wasting my time calling their costumer service, and waiting for their worst after sales support. No, I made a few attempts to call them actually, but it seemed that I could not “catch” any representative because only a voice prompt answers my calls.

So, I tried to resort to other means that I thought could speed up my PC. I downloaded some internet booster software, which didn’t work. I also tried to run several browsers, thinking that Mozilla Firefox no more works for faster browsing on my PC. I even tried to install the latest version of Fasterfox, a Firefox extensions which tweaks some of the browser’s configuration for faster browsing. I cleaned up my hard disk, deleting all the unused files, including some of my mp3 collections. I’ve deleted almost 1000 mp3 files, which I regretted after. I patiently downloaded some of them when I was still on a dial-up connection. None of these things worked.

Don’t Go for SmartBro!

February 5th, 2007

I guess I am now one of the hundreds of SmartBro unsatisfied costumers. It has been weeks since I switched from dial-up to SmartBro thinking that it was a “better” option. But after 2 weeks, our connection went crappy. It goes went intermittently on and off. Our connection had been off for a week now. I’ve called their costumer care service for several times, getting the same promises that I will get a response to my problem within 24 hours. I first called last January 25 and until now my problem was not addressed. Our schedule for repair was today, February 4, but no one from their office came to see my problem. Then when I called a while ago, I found out that it was rescheduled tomorrow without even informing me of the changes. Imagine, I waited the whole day for nothing. God, I am getting impatient! Good if they allow their costumers to delay their payment for a week.

Note: This entry was supposed to be posted last night but my connection was cut off after few hours, hence the delay.

New Year, New Internet Connection

January 11th, 2007

I had a very tragic internet connection these past few days, thus, no blog updates. I was using PLDT Vibe Dial-up, where I could get a maximum speed of 45.2 Kbps. I was fine with it because my only purpose then in using the internet is browsing – blogging, updating websites, checking e-mails, and posting in some message board. Every time I want to download something, I go to a nearby cafe.

Unfortunately, PLDT Vibe was phased out in our area to make way for Pwede Card! their recent innovation. It is a multi-purpose, reloadable card. It could have been nicer because you only have to purchase one card and reload it. It’s environment-friendly, that is. I thought it was better than PLDT Vibe card, disappointingly, it’s worse! I could not connect. My 30-peso worth card had expired after 3 days and I haven’t even used it! Frustrating.
